Can you believe we are only a few days away? Are you ready? 2017 has been great to me, so I am eagerly awaiting the new year. I hope 2018 is even better than 2017 was to me. I always look to the new year for new beginnings and new goals and to make way for those new things, I like to clear some clutter from the year.  Here are 6 ways to prep for the new year.

1. Create new goals for the upcoming year

Use this free SMART Goals Guide and Worksheet to help plan out your goals.

2. Print out photos

Free Prints is an app available for Android and iPhone that allows you to get 1,000 free 4×6 prints a year for FREE. All you have to pay is the shipping. So go through your phone now and get those vacation photos printed before the end of the year.

3. Clean out your closet and donate old clothes or clothes you haven’t worn all year.

The beginning or end of the year (or start of a new season) is a great time to get rid of old clothes that you haven’t worn in a while. Also, if you make a donation before January, it’s a great write-off for your taxes. Every little bit helps.

And speaking of taxes…

4. Get your current finances and financial documents together.

Tax season is coming and it’s never fun to be going through boxes or stacks of paper looking for receipts and documents when we are preparing to file. So get a head start now gathering your documents and getting your finances in order.

5. Develop a budget and savings plan for the new year.

Income and financial goals change from year to year. Check out my post on setting SMART financial goals.  Take time to review your finances and develop a new budget and savings plan that works toward your goals for the coming year.  My goal this year was to buy a house, but I had to reorganize those goals and focus on paying off some debt first before I could take the necessary steps to buy a house. So be realistic when you’re looking at your finances and making those goals.

6. Do a digital clean up.

Go through your inbox(es) and delete unnecessary emails and files. I personally try to go through my email accounts once a month and delete unread or unwanted emails. This is also a good time to unsubscribe from newsletters and email lists that you are no longer interested in or just don’t have the time for.  If you haven’t backed up important files to an external hard drive or saved them to a cloud, now is the time to do it.  Save photos from your camera’s memory cards to your computer or hard drive. so that you can start fresh in the new year. Time off during the holidays is also a great time to binge watch all those shows you have saved on your DVR.

Happy prepping and don’t forget to order your photos!
