July Recap/August Goals

Each month I share my goals as a way to motivate myself to get things done and stay accountable. I hope to inspire you to set goals as well. July was Minority Mental Health month. Mental health is something that is very passionate to me because of my past experience with depression and also my new discovery of another mental health disorder that I have. If you missed my “Coming Out” story, you can read all about it here. I also shared some important stats on Mental Health on my Instagram stories, so if you missed them, here’s a quick recap: 1 in 5 adults in America experience a mental illness Research indicates that African Americans believe that mild depression or anxiety would be considered “crazy” in their social circles Many believe that discussions about mental illness would not be appropriate even among family 42 million adults in America live with anxiety disorders…

June Recap/July Goals

Each month I share my goals as a way to motivate myself to get things done and stay accountable. Here’s last month’s recap and this month’s set of goals for my blog, and my personal life.  I feel like the month of July is going to fly by and August will be here before we know it. So before we get to August, I need to recap June and share my July goals. June was a busy and great month for me. The District Queens had our 1-year anniversary party, as well as our community service Goodie Girl Bags Packing Social. We had a fun time at the anniversary party and I really enjoyed making goodie bags for the less fortunate. We’ll be doing another packing social in the fall, so be on the lookout for the date. In June I also announced that I am a summer ambassador for…

May Recap/June Goals

Each month I share my goals as a way to motivate myself to get things done and stay accountable. Here’s last month’s recap and this month’s set of goals for my blog, and my personal life.  I know the month of June is halfway over and I have not shared my goals for the month. Better late than never right? May was a busy month for me as I prepared for the second work event that I was lead for. The event took place outside of Austin, Texas at the beginning of June, but my major focus in May was making sure all of the arrangements for the event took place as arranged. After the event in Texas, I came home to celebrate the District Queens one-year Anniversary party at Takoda in DC. I only managed to get one picture of us all together. This month seems to be all…

April Recap/May Goals

Each month I share my goals as a way to motivate myself to get things done and stay accountable. Here’s last month’s recap and the next month’s set of goals for my blog, and my personal life. Happy May! Is it just me or did April fly by? April was a busy month. The District Queens and I recorded a podcast with the lovely Deja Perez on a local radio station 93.9 WKYS. As promised, here is the link if you want to listen. We’re talking body confidence and dating while curvy. Last month I mentioned I would be doing a challenge on the importance of having a good morning routine and how to make over your morning. I’ve postponed the challenge for a couple weeks and here’s why. I have been hearing a lot of friends lately complain about how busy they are and how they always on the grind.…

Making It a Habit – The Benefit of a Routine & Habit Filled Day

Have noticed that it gets harder to make decisions toward the end of the day? You’re too tired to figure out what to have for dinner or what to watch on TV. That’s because we all have a finite amount of decisions that we can make on any given day. Knowing that helps us prioritize. We can cut out a lot of decision making by implementing habits and routines. That way we save them for the important stuff. It also frees brain space for more creative and productive thinking. Routines are a great tool that simplify our lives and cut out a lot of our daily stress. Chances are you already have a morning routine. You get up, you get your coffee, read the paper or check your email/scroll through social media, and fix some breakfast before heading into the shower. Let’s expand on that. If you create a “uniform”…
