Have you found you’re your lips are a lot drier in the winter? During the colder months, it can be extremely challenging to keep your skin healthy, but this is even more true of the sensitive skin on your lips.

Even though companies have poured millions into the industry of fast lip care, those methods tend to be band-aids over a larger problem on the whole. Research has shown that natural methods are generally more effective over time, and leave little or no carbon footprint. The following article will show you a few ways to take care of your dry winter lips.

Honey is one of the best natural substances for healing. Much of this is due to its natural antibacterial and antifungal properties. If your lips are chapped and dry, then you can take a small amount of honey and rub it onto your lips. This will help heal and soothe the skin. The recipe below is great for fighting off smoker’s lines and yes these can exist whether you smoke or not.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 teaspoon of honey
2 teaspoons of mashed avocado

Just mash up a ripe avocado in a bowl and measure out two teaspoons. Then mix in the honey and you’re ready to go.

The avocado is full of vitamins and minerals that will replenish and hydrate your lips.

Coconut oil is another very easy and natural way to keep moisture on your lips. Coconut oil is full of saturated fats that moisturize and fill in cells in the top layer of your skin. All you have to do to use the coconut oil is to simply rub some directly on your lips. The simple natural makeup of the oil means that it’ll be free of side effects. It is also easy to leave on your lips overnight.

This recipe below combines both honey and coconut oil and is great for fighting off those pesky little lip lines. Here’s what you’ll need:

1 teaspoon of honey
1 teaspoon of coconut oil

You’ll want to soften the coconut oil a bit before you mix it with the honey. You can either put it in the microwave for about 15 seconds or put it in a pan on the stove on low heat for about two minutes. After the coconut oil is soft, simply mix it together with the honey and apply it to your lips.

A little-known remedy that you can try would be to make a rose petal paste. If you take a few rose petals and crush them into a carrier fluid like glycerin, you can make a paste and apply it to your lips. This paste will have healing benefits, as well as help, keep moisture on your lips.

Here’s what you’ll need:

10-15 Rose petals
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp coconut oil

You’ll want to soften the coconut oil for this mask as well, so put it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. Take the rose petals and crush them in a bowl with a fork. After you’ve crushed the petals, add the sugar to the bowl and mix it well with the petals. Once the sugar is mixed with the petals, pour in the coconut oil and mix well.  Apply to your lips.

Stay Hydrated

One of the most important things to make sure that you don’t forget is the basic habit of being sure that you are properly hydrated. This is because these methods above will be of little help if your body doesn’t have the moisture that it needs to keep your lips hydrated, and the nutrients that your lips need to be repaired. Carry a  reusable water bottle that you can fill up throughout the day. That will make sure that you maintain a minimum level of hydration, and make it easier to know how much water you drank each day.
