Each month I share my goals as a way to motivate myself to get things done and stay accountable. Here’s last month’s recap and this month’s set of goals for my blog, and my personal life.

I know the month of June is halfway over and I have not shared my goals for the month. Better late than never right? May was a busy month for me as I prepared for the second work event that I was lead for. The event took place outside of Austin, Texas at the beginning of June, but my major focus in May was making sure all of the arrangements for the event took place as arranged. After the event in Texas, I came home to celebrate the District Queens one-year Anniversary party at Takoda in DC. I only managed to get one picture of us all together.

This month seems to be all about self-care. I’ve been having dizzy spells due to my vertigo. Usually, the dizzy spells last 2-3 days and then they disappear, but this time they have been off and on for 2 weeks now. The first couple days I was in the house all weekend; with medicine, I am able to keep the dizzy spells away for the most part. But the downside of the medicine is that it makes me super drowsy, so I try to take it only at night time. However, I’ll be making an appointment with an ear specialist this week, because I don’t want to be walking around like a zombie for the rest of the summer, so pray for me.

So last month, I actually didn’t make any goals, but I can update you on May’s goals. Here’s what they were:

Walk at least 6 miles a week.

Crushed this one. You might remember that in May my job was holding a team competition to see who could get the most steps in. This was extra motivation for me to get out and go to the park and walk a couple miles.

Pass three classes towards my CEM certification.

I ended up taking FOUR Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) classes in May and passed all four. So now I have five more before I complete the requirements for the certification. I am hoping to take the other five this year, but we’ll see how that goes with my work schedule.

And for June I am keeping my goals pretty simple.

Monthly Goals

  • Get in the gym. Be active.  I took an Afro Beats exercise class yesterday. It was super fun and I sweat a lot. It felt good to be active again and participate in a class. So even though half the month is over, I want to continue to be active, whether that means signing up for some classes, walking around my local park or hitting the gym at work.
  • Complete my series on self-care and mental health. Due to the recent celebrity suicides, mental health has been in the news a lot lately. I want to do my part to make sure we continue the conversations about self-care and mental health. Self-care is super important to me. I listen to my body when it says, “Take it easy” and definitely take time to get my mind right when I am off emotionally. I shared my reason for my passion for mental health, but there is more to the story, so I want to share that. I’ve already started doing my research and drafting some posts, so I hope to finalize them to share by July.

Here’s what I blogged about last month.
